Here’s why an assembly on importance of reading is so important: A lack of reading can severely stunt a child’s mental development.
Reading is critical in sparking curiosity about the world around us as well as literacy in children. Reading also helps develop children’s brain development in terms of social skills, communication skills, and so much more.
Let’s face it – without reading, children are in big trouble!
The problem is this: we’ve all heard or read those studies that stress the fact that so many adults rarely read for personal growth once they finish school. That’s more than a little depressing.
That’s what inspired me to create my third reading assembly on the importance of reading!
This whimsical, wacky school assembly is called “The Great Reading Adventure” and it’s a reading-themed hoot, designed to get YOUR students excited about reading by highlighting the plots, characters, and themes of classics of childrens’ literature!
Oh and before I forget, I also offer a middle school version of my Reading assembly! See the bottom of this page for details!
Using a combination of magic, goofy kid-friendly humor, audience involvement, music, and silly props, I bring many of these stories to life! While the exact books may vary from time to time and based on grade levels, the core group of kids’ books I highlight in “The Great Reading Adventure” includes:
How do these classics come to life in this assembly on the importance of reading? In goofy, surprising, hysterical magical ways! Using a spell from the “Harry Potter” books, one student is turned into a wizard… a ghost from “Goosebumps” comes to visit your school in an amazing way everyone will talk about for years… a spider from “Charlotte’s Web” spins a web with an important message for your students…Stuart, the World’s Fastest Mouse, runs into some trouble while trying to solve a problem…a fun science experiment will have everyone laughing hysterically…and much more!
Not only are classics of literature highlighted but so are important terms! During “The Great Reading Adventure” school assembly, students are reminded of topics, concepts, and definitions of:
One of the things that many of my clients talk about and enjoy about my programs is the fact that whenever I bring an assembly on the importance of reading to their school, they know that I always cater to the age group of the students I’m presenting to – in other words, if your school is a K-5 school and you typically have a program for grades K-2 followed by another program for grades 3-5, I bring different versions of the program to ‘reach’ kids on their level. The book selections vary as well as some of the magic and humor. You can rest easy, knowing your students will be attentive and participating throughout the entire show!
But what if your school is a K-8 school or a middle school? Read on…
Because I’m so passionate about this topic, I’ve also created a special middle school assembly program on the topic of reading. This program has a different title, “Horror In The Library,” and it’s filled with incredible Criss Angel-style magic which really appeals to middle schoolers. As with my other school assemblies, the magic and fun helps illustrate the concepts and lessons in the program.
Additionally, this school assembly has a different backdrop and banners to better appeal to middle school students.
This middle school program is appropriate for grades 5-8 and runs from 40-45 minutes. I’ve framed this show around many classics of literature that many middle schoolers are, or have been, assigned to read across the country:
This program can be booked on its own if your school is a middle school building, or, if your building houses grades K-8, I can present a version of “The Great Reading Adventure” to grades K-4 and then present “Horror In The Library” to grades 5-8.
Call (716) 940-8963 (that’s my cell phone) or fill out the Contact Form above to receive “The Great Reading Adventure” information immediately. You just might inspire some students to pick up a book.
